Day 1: Helsinki, Rovaniemi
In Helsinki transfer to a domestic flight to Rovaniemi, Capital of Lapland. After your arrival at Rovaniemi airport you’ll be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel. Rest of the day at leisure. Dinner at the hotel. [D]
Day 2: Rovaniemi, Levi
This morning, take 3-hour scenic drive north, following the Ounasjoki River, to Kittilä where we stop for lunch. Short drive to Levi and free afternoon. Dinner and overnight at the hotel. [B/L/D]
Winter option: Reindeer safaris in millennial landscapes or self-driven dog sled safaris are the best way to experience the purity of this nature.
Summer option: Finish Spa treatment at one of the local Spas.
Day 3: Levi, Ylläsjärvi, Äkäslompolo, Pallas-Yllastunturi Nat’l Park, Muonio
The day will be dedicated to nature around the Pallas-Yllastunturi Nat’l Park area. First, we head to Ylläsjärvi, a rather quiet village stretching south of Mount Ylläs. Then, Äkäslompolo which is a small, lively village concentrated around the ski resort. Continue towards Pallas-Yllastunturi Nat’l Park a part of the Finnish Lapland where you’ll find the purest air in Europe. Lunch and free afternoon to take advantage of the many scenic trails of the park. Finally, continue to Muonio, a supply point in northwestern Lapland, on the Swedish border, near the most beautiful hiking routes in Finland. Agriculture, reindeer herding and tourism are the main sources of income in the region. Dinner at the hotel. At night, you can admire the impressive celestial ballet of the Northern Lights. Overnight at the hotel. [B/L/D]
Day 4: Muonio, Siida-Inari, Ivalo
Take the road back to Levi and continue northeast toward Inari where we stop for lunch. In the afternoon visit the open-air Lappish ethnographic museum in Siida where archaeologists have found traces of habitation in this emblematic site dating back 9,000 years. Observe how the Sami people lived in harmony with nature, learn to distinguish the different ethnic groups and admire the incredible number of collected objects: tools, weapons, household items ... And don't miss the film about the Northern Lights. Continue to Ivalo. For dinner and overnight. [B/L/D]
Day 5: Ivalo, Saariselka
Discover Saariselkä and the freshness of the far north of Finnish Lapland! Ski resort during the winter and full of activities during the summer. A tourist center appreciated by Finns, nature has nevertheless remained intact. Hiking, mountain biking, fishing, panning for gold and canoeing ... No doubt you are in Finland! Dinner and overnight in the Saariselkä region. [B/D]
Day 6: Saariselkä, Tankavaara, Sodankylä, Luosto
Departure from Saariselkä to the south of Lapland. In Tankavaara, the Gold Museum is a true masterpiece that has required more than 35 years of research and effort. It was originally a nut-shaped lumberjack's hut, but today it is considered a veritable scientific center on an international scale. In Sodankylä, do not miss the Andreas Alariesto art gallery, whose work delves into the sources of Lapp tradition. After lunch, we leave for Luosto and spend some time at the Pyhätunturi National Park surrounded by forests. Dinner and overnight in the Luosto region. [B/L/D]
Day 7: Luosto, Pyhätunturi, Kemijärvi, Rovaniemi
Return to Rovaniemi, on the Arctic Circle, via Pyhätunturi and Kemijärvi to enjoy the activities offered in the region. Lunch en route and free afternoon in Rovaniemi. Dinner and overnight. [B/L/D]
Day 8: Rovaniemi
Today we visit the capital of Finnish Lapland. There are scores of sights and attractions in the Official Hometown of Santa Claus. Christmas magic can be experienced year-round in places like Santa Claus Village and SantaPark. As the capital of Lapland, Rovaniemi is home to Lapland’s Provincial Museum Arktikum, the forest-themed Pilke Science Centre and the Korundi House of Culture. For animal lovers, the various reindeer and husky farms are a must along with Ranua Zoo that specializes in Arctic fauna; its ‘royal residents’ are the mighty polar bears and their cousins, the Finnish brown bears. Dinner and overnight in Rovaniemi. [B/D]
Day 9: Rovaniemi, Helsinki, USA
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel. At the appointed time you be met and transferred to the airport for a flight to Helsinki where you’ll board your flight back home. [B]
